TripAdvisor, Inc., the travel website that provides hotel and restaurant reviews, and accommodation bookings have just announced their Travelers’ Choice® awards for beaches from around the world. There is good news for India as Agonda Beach in South Goa has been ranked as the “best beach in Asia”.
Move aside Phra Nang, Thailand; Sipadan and Emerald Bay in Malaysia; Phi Phi Don, Thailand; Kabira Bay, Japan; and Palawan in Philippines… it’s time for India and Goa to rock. The ranking is decided based on reviews and polls conducted by TripAdvisor where millions of travelers from around the world participate.
Where is Agonda Beach?
Agonda Beach is in South Goa, about an hour from Margao by NH 66. It takes about 1 and half hours from Vasco da Gama. It is a fabulous beach, very different than many other beaches in Goa. The sand is golden, smooth, and very clean. It is a 2 kilometer long wide beach that never becomes too crowded, even in the peak season. Palm groves line the shore. The water is shallow, warm, and very nice. There are no rocks.
There is a hill on the northern side with the Cabo de Rama Fort. Further north, you can visit Cavelossim beach, the Betul Fort, and lighthouse. There are rock formations on the south too, beyond which there is Palolem, which is another famous beach in South Goa. Honeymoon beach, Butterfly beach, and Cola beach are also close.
Life in Agonda Beach, Goa
A road runs parallel to the beach where there are many cafes and shops. There is also a church in the village. Cars and scooters are available on rent. Agonda Beach is a perfect destination for people who do not like crowds and just want to relax in peace within nature. Get a massage, enjoy your food and drinks, and just laze around. You will enjoy the laid back life here, and go back home completely recharged. It’s not a place for the party crowd, but the party destinations are close, in case you want to visit. There is much to see close to Agonda as well.
You will also find many great villas and resorts in Agonda Beach. Here are some of the best villas in Goa available on rent.
Every year in the month of September, Agonda beach becomes the nesting ground of Olive Ridley Turtles, an endangered species.
