Absolutely! November to February is considered the best time to visit Goa. The weather is milder, the sea is calmer, and it is the party season as well. The restaurants and the beach shacks are working at full steam. There are water sports activities too. It’s a great time of the year to sit back and relax and take in the winter sun, or party hard to enjoy the full potential of Goa. You can also visit the many tourist attractions without worrying about heat or a flash rain.
The Weather in January
The weather is very mild, the most comfortable time of the year to visit. The daytime temperature ranges between 25.5°C and 31°C, and in the night it is usually around 20°C. The sea temperature is around 27°C, which is very mild. January is also the driest month with a mere 0.2mm rainfall. You don’t need an umbrella. There is plenty of sun all around, with an average of 11 hours daily, an hour more than December.
What to do in Goa in January
With great sunshine and pleasant water, you should be out there on the beach. Most Goa beaches are safe for swimming, and there are lifeguards in many of them. However, there are rocks and riptides in a few of them. So check before you go.
Once at the beach, just make yourself comfortable in a recliner at a shack and you are all set to relax. There are plenty of good shacks you can select from. Select a good beach in North or South Goa, but make sure to visit a few more too. And when you are not on the beach, you can relax and have fun at the swimming pool at your private villa in Goa. You can enjoy all kinds of water sports in January – parasailing, wakeboarding, water skiing, speed boat and banana boat rides, deep sea fishing, dolphin watching, kayaking, cruising, and much more. There is scuba diving and snorkeling as well. Most of the water sports activities are closed during the rains. But the operators are active again this time of the year.
Then there are the parties too at Baga, Candolim and Calangute, for which Goa is best known. Parties are held at some other beaches as well, such as Anjuna, and Vagator. You can visit a nightclub or even a shack, where there are parties after sundown.
Goa’s night markets, flea markets, and the night markets are at their best in January. There are great buys, but you can also try authentic local Goanese and Konkani food here.
Festivals in January
The month is one of the busiest times of the year. Every night is a festival at the party hotspots. But there are other events too. For instance, Sunsplash, which is India’s biggest reggae festival at Anjuna Beach is a must attend. You will love the Jamaican flavor of this festival. There is also the Goa Tribal Festival, the tattoo festival, and the Zatrotsav of Shantadurga.
