| Backed by the deep green of the oldest protected rain forest in the Western
Hemisphere, framed by mango trees and bamboo, it is the perfect place for
"living in the landscape".

Fisherman's Lodge / Sunset (Mouse Over) | |

Fisherman's Lodge
Originally a fisherman's shack, this delightful building has been newly-renovated
and has dual aspect views to the beach below and a clear view to the Caribbean
Sea to the west. This means you can enjoy the spectacular sunsets no matter
what time of year you visit. The renovation has been sensitively done with
weatherboard exterior and fretwork trim. It is constructed of Red Cedar, a
hardwood cut from the rainforest some 60 years ago - with the hand planing
and saw markings still visible.
The bedroom (13ft by 15ft) has louvered windows designed to catch the cool
breezes that come over the hill from the east, a polished hardwood floor and
a queen sized bed with white bed linen and frame mosquito net.
The shower room, toilet and basin open off the living room as does the L-shaped
kitchen to the side which allows free movement of air and uninterrupted views.
The kitchen is modern and well equipped with good quality pots and pans, cutlery
and china for six people, glassware, toaster, coffee pots, teapots and blender/ice crusher.
The L-shaped living room (20ft by 13ft) opens out to the same ocean views as the
new bedroom and has a single bed/sofa on the end wall which is suitable for a
friend or a child (supplement applicable). A hair dryer, hammock, free
standing ventilator fan, iron, CD player and security safe are provided.
The original porch has been massively extended to create a spacious covered
deck area (13ft by 15ft) furnished with comfortable seating for four people,
with either a coffee table or a hinged drop-down table for dining. Next
to the covered deck is a lockable storage cupboard for beach gear, snorkels etc.
Outside is a large private grassy terrace with dining table offering comfort
and privacy as well as probably the best outlook in Castara.

The beach is only a three minute walk down a winding footpath. It is ideal
for swimming, body surfing, sunbathing, wandering along the sand to buy a drink,
choosing freshly caught fish for dinner, or a friendly chat with the locals. The
sea in the bay is safe for bathing, being free of the currents that can cause
problems on the Atlantic coast.
The village is a four minute walk down the road. Pick up home made bread at
Veronica´s, order a take away, or collect provisions from the stores. The shops
are simple, the people are delightful, and the mangoes are plentiful.
Take a longer stroll to Little Bay (10 minutes) to snorkel over the world class
coral reef that begins a few feet away from the shore; parrot fish, angel fish
and sting rays are a few of the everyday sights on the reef among the fan and
brain coral. Then have a drink or eat very good food at Brenton´s restaurant.

Coasthanger & Birdsong Lodges Sleeping 2 & 4
Coasthanger is constructed of red cedar, a local hardwood, and is from sustainable
sources. It has a large bedroom measuring 14 x 14 feet with a queen size
double bed and full size mosquito net on a suspended wooden frame. There is
a spacious living area spanning 20 x 14 feet with panoramic views of the two beaches
looking both North-West and also to the coastline looking South-West with stunning
sunsets over the Caribbean. There is comfortable and stylish seating and a
dining space in the living area. The kitchen is open plan with the living
area, and is equipped to a high standard. There is also a cosy porch measuring
14 x 8 feet providing additional comfortable sitting area for relaxing or eating.
The total floor area is a very generous 800 square feet and offers a wonderful
space for a couple looking for comfort and simplicity in nature.
The interior has polished wooden floors, wicker furniture and drop down windows
that can be pulled up to create a very open outlook that optimises the breeze
by day. There is also an abundance of soft lighting with dimmer switches to
enable adjustments to meet your needs and moods.
The views from Coasthanger are probably the best of all our accommodation as
the lodge feels as if it hangs over the beach. The views from bed, the
living area and the porch are all wonderful. The house partly sits under
an old mango tree which offers welcome shade when the sun is strong, and is
surrounded by gardens newly planted with shrubs and small trees.

Birdsong Lodge - sleeps 4.
Birdsong is almost exactly the same as Coasthanger except that it offers a second large 17 x 14 feet
double bedroom and en-suite shower room below the main floor of the lodge, with double
doors onto a deck area measuring 17x10 feet offering a perfect additional space if a
family or four adults are staying in this accommodation.
The lodge is constructed of yellow cypress and is perched on stilts about 20 feet above
the ground, offering simply stunning views of both beaches and the headland
looking up the coast as well as the rocky cliffs and bays looking down to the west.
